Weekend Roundup

Well, my NYC trip was postponed. I was bummed, but we're going to go at another time. On Wednesday Sadie Boo woke up with sister's cold. B loved school again on Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday B and I had checkups with Gumbo. B did OK, but she really loved playing with the toys in the office. Momma Lady and Grandpa picked B up on Friday night and kept her until last night. She had a blast. P, Sadie, and I went to dinner at Nirvana. On Saturday P and I did tons of projects while Sadie napped for 4 hours. Sadie's nightly crying has gotten better because she's been napping more during the day. Last night the Carvilles came over to watch the LSU game. This morning we walked to PJ's and met the Carvilles; it was so nice outside. Afterwards we went to the Zoo then came home to watch the Saints game and do more house stuff. I still had unpacking to do from the evacuation--pathetic, I know. I'm going to go talk to P to decide who has to stay up with S, because we are both pretty exhausted.

--B said, "I'm excited!" when I brought her ice cream the other day
--Sadie can now put her toes in her mouth
--B sings all the time. She especially loves "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "I'm Bringing Home My Baby Bumblebee."

Cold #1

Betsy has her first cold of the school year...and so do all of the kids in her class. I'm such a germophobe, Purell freak, but while she's at school I have no control over what she puts in her mouth and who she touches and what she does--and it kills me.

She loved school again yesterday. After we dropped B off Sadie and I went to the Parents Breakfast and met a lot of the moms. Thank goodness Caroline was there, because it's sort of scary to meet a room full of moms. After B's nap we went to an Orient Expressed shoot. B was sort of whiny at first, but then she had fun. There were tons of cute outfits and lots of nose wiping. Last night P made yummy tacos. We have another OE shoot at 11. I hope B is cooperative!

Sadie has been REALLY fussy lately. She has started crying at night from about 7 until 10 or 11. For the first couple of hours she has to be held, but then she starts crying even when she is being held. I don't know what it is. I think she's overly tired, but she won't go to sleep. I'm happy that she sleeps from 10 or 11 until 7 or 8 (she's actually still sleeping now and it's 8:30), but I don't know why she's so fussy.

--When I offered her orange juice just now(since I only really offer it to her when she has a cold) she said, "make Betsy feel better?" She said the same thing about her medicine last night.
--She has to have so much stuff in her bed--last night she had to hold her 2 balloon from Katie and she had several dolls, a set of wooden paper dolls, about a dozen figurines, her pillows, blanket, and 2 random books in her bed. There's hardly any room for her in her bed.

I may just upload all of my pics to this loaner computer so I can post pics. I'll try tonight.

Happy Birthday, Betsy!

I can't believe my baby girl is 2 years old. It really feels like she was just born. Every day she becomes smarter, sweeter, and more beautiful. We love you so much, Betsy Bear.

B had a fabulous time at her birthday party at the Children's Museum. Today we went to William's birthday party at the Zoo. This afternoon Marme, Gumbo, Bee, Katie, and the Carvilles came over for cake and ice cream. B received so many wonderful presents. I am totally exhausted, and now I'm going to bed!

Happy Half Birthday, Lawson!

Last night we celebrated Lawson's half birthday. I can't believe she is already 6 months old. She gets cuter, smarter, and sweeter every day!

We had a very busy week. B loved school again on Wednesday and today, and both days she cried when I picked her up and didn't want to let go of the teacher. It kind of made me sad, but I know it would be much worse if she didn't like school. B is taking super long naps after school, but her baby sister is napping less and doesn't fall asleep until 11 or midnight. She does sleep until around 7 so I guess I shouldn't complain. Yesterday we met playgroup at the Zoo, and the kids rode the up and down. Today Sadie and I met a bunch of playgroup moms and a couple of the new babies at PJ's. It was weird not to have B with me. Sadie and I went to see Andrea's new house--it is beautiful! P made cupcakes for her special birthday snack at school, and there were a few left over when I picked B up and she was very concerned about making sure we brought them home. This afternoon B slept for 4 hours. Gumbo and Katie came to visit when she woke up. Tonight P and I ordered August Moon and got ready for B's party tomorrow. I hope Sadie falls asleep soon; I'm exhausted......

B is starting to fib. Earlier today she said, "Betsy tummy hurt. Mommy hit Betsy tummy." Yikes--hope she doesn't share that at school!

Playing Catchup

I really haven't had time to do any blogging. The girls are wonderful and sweet, but I don't get much of a break these days and at night I try to do all of the things I'm not able to do during the day. Last week things got back to normal--music class, B hanging with Gumbo at Nacho Mama's, Mall with Krista and the kids, and going to the Parenting Center with playgroup. Last Wednesday P and I met B's teachers and got to see her classroom. B immediately started playing--she went to the play kitchen, grabbed a teacup and saucer then sat in one of the mini armchairs in the corner and pretended to drink tea--and we had a feeling she was really going to like school. B's first day of school was cancelled due to Hurricane Ike. The weather was super scary. Over the weekend we hung out with the Carvilles, went to Reed's birthday party, and went swimming at Camp Pleasant then had dinner at Bee's.

B's first day was on Monday and she LOVED it! We brought her to her classroom and she didn't even look back when we left. I got to school a few minutes early to pick her up and I saw her quietly sitting in her cubby, like the other children, listening to a story. Then all of the kids lined up with their school bags--it was adorable. When she came out of her classroom she had lots to say--'Betsy sing, eat 'nack (snack). forget da fork (she likes to eat everything with a fork and I guess they don't offer forks with snack at school), jump on da steps, miss jan, miss wendy, read da books." Miss Jan said that she was great and loves to paint. I was sort of concerned because B was in her spare outift, but she had just spilled some water on her dress when she was painting. When B woke up from her nap on Monday she said, and said, "Betsy go to school tonight?" She has been singing songs that I don't know and babbling away about school for the last two days.

Last night Marme watched all 3 girls while we went to a Ducks Unlimited dinner at Galatoire's with Gumbo, Bee, and the sisters and boys. It was yummy and lots of fun. Thanks to Marme for watching the girls and thanks to Gumbo for the dinner.

This morning we went to Sadie's 4 month checkup. She weighs 14 lb, 2 oz. and is 25 1/4 inches long. She is in the 75th percentile for height and weight and her head is in the 50th percentile. She cried so hard when she got her shots, but Betsy cried even harder when she heard her baby sister get upset. We met Krista and the kids at Clearview and B ate lots of Cheetos and the kids looked at toys at Target so they could let Santa know what they want for Christmas.

News:

--B has 4 new teeth poking through bringing her grand total to 10 teeth

--The other day while P was at work B said, "Daddy watch Mickey Mouse, no Daddy watch football."

--Katie and I have the same dress except hers is black and white and mine is green and white. I had it on my bed and she said, "Katie dress." I said, "No, it's Mommy's dress." She then said, "Oh, Katie like black. Mommy like green."

--When I try to help her do anything she says, "Betsy do it!"

--B just learned at school on Monday to shake her head when she says no

--B loves to hug Sadie and asks me where she is whenever she can't find her

--Betsy is terrified of shadows. She calls shadows "the man" and when she woke up from her nap she was screaming "the man, the man!" and trembling. I held her and she kept crying and saying, "Betsy go in another room. Not in dis room. Not in dis room." It was so sad. P and I are trying to show her that shadows can be fun, but she is not buying it.

My computer is still being repaired so no pics for now. I will have a ton when I can post them again.

Our Hurrication

Well, the Bourgeois crew (and Marme, Katie, Peter A, and Lola) made it to the beach anyway! We stayed in Perdido Key at Andrea's parents' beautiful condo during the evacuation before Hurrican Gustav. A HUGE thank you to Andrea and her parents, Phil and Virginia Israel.

Leading up to the evacuation there was plenty of stressing out and packing. On Saturday the Carvilles and Katie and Peter came over to watch the LSU game, but I didn't sit the whole time because I was packing and looking for paperwork and gathering mementos. An hour before we were going to leave a crazy thing happened--the shrimp that were put in the garbage disposal went down at the same time the washer was letting out water and the pipe in the laundry room burst and shredded shrimp and water went everywhere. We noticed water pouring out of the garage and discovered the source. The boys moved boxes and put down bleach and Comet and B bought lots of air freshener and everthing ended up being OK, but it was kind of a nightmare. We had originally planned to go to BR then Vacherie, but the storm looked like it would cause serious weather in either place so we decided to head to Covington for the night then head out to Natchez or Jackson or most probably Dallas. On the way to Covington Andrea called and offered their beach condo. We were so psyched, because Dallas is far away (it took Attie & Beau 15 hours to get there). We stayed at Beau's parents' house (thanks a bunch!) and the girls were out of sorts and so were we. We watched the news and Nagin was calling Gustav 'the mother of all storms' and scaring us all to death. I went to bed at 1 and we all got up at 4 and headed out. Marme, Katie, Peter, and Lola followed us to the beach. The ride there was great, because Peter and Peter found some back highways and we didn't sit on I-10 like all of the people we were hearing about on the radio. We made it in about 5 hours and encountered zero traffic. We spent the next few days stressing then chilling and pigging out on junk. Once we realized NOLA was going to be OK we could relax. It was soooo windy on the beach and the waves were wild. I took pics. We had to hunker down in the master bathroom a couple of times when there were tornado warnings. We watched lots of storm coverage and some good Bravo shows. B loved the indoor pool and we made it out to the beach late one afternoon when it had stopped raining. B loved walking on the beach and putting her hands in the sand and looking at shells.

Things are sort of getting back to normal, but we're all sort of freaked out about Ike approaching the Gulf. Most people have their power back. There are tons of branches everywhere. There are spray painted signs all over letting people know which restaurants are open. It's weird for there not to be certain things in grocery stores and for milk to be such a hot commodity. On Friday B helped me give Sadie a bath. During B's nap the power went out and I was so freaked out because I thought it would be out for a while. The girls and I went to lunch with Katie and Peter at Superior and while we were there P called and let us know the answering machine was on so the power was back. Yay! B went with Gumbo to visit Jama and Pa and Taddy. Yesterday we tried to get unpacked and settled. Gumbo picked up Guy's po-boys and hung out. The Carvilles finally got home and came to visit. Today Momma Lady and Grandpa came to visit and then Gumbo came to visit and take a ride with B. Marme and I went shopping for fall clothes for the girls.

What the girls have been saying/doing:

--when we walked up to the water at the beach --"oh noooo! a baby shark!" There was no shark, but I guess she was thinking of "Finding Nemo."
--Marme has been teaching her lots of songs and ballet moves
--she loved the sand at the beach--digging in it, throwing it in the water
--B now requests a fork with everything she eats--including pizza, cookies, doughnuts, etc.
--B knows lots of last names--Bourgeois, Babin, Carville, Ascani
--B is obsessed with Lola
--B said, "are we here???" while we were on the way to the beach (I thought she'd have to be a bit older before that started
--Sadie discovered her feet last Wednesday and has started grabbing for her toys
--Sadie rolled over from her back to her tummy on Friday night, but got really scared when she was on her tummy
--Sadie loves making rasberries

I have tons of pictures, but I can't upload them yet. I'll post them soon.

Here's hoping that Ike doesn't come and lots of love to our pals in BR dealing with the aftermath of Gustav!
