Betsy Update

Little B is doing very well after her surgery this morning. We are staying at Ochsner tonight so that they can monitor the blood flow to her foot. She has been so out of it today and has not slept a wink even though she's been given tons of codeine and morphine. She just now finally fell asleep. She is sleeping on her big ole tacky Cinderella pillow and is surrounded by Bear & Baby, her teddy bear from the hospital staff, her new Cinderella doll, and her new elephant from Will and Josie. I'm so thankful that the surgery went well, but this has been a very rough day. It's been hard to see my baby in pain. She enjoyed seeing her visitors and getting prizes. I hope she is feeling better tomorrow. We are missing our Sadie Boo. I went home twice to see her, feed her, and bring Momma Lady some pumped bottles. I can't wait till our little family is back together again!

Quick weekend/end of week roundup:
--last Thursday I took both girls to the Zoo to meet playgroup--my first time taking both of them by myself; in the afternoon Gumbo and Bee took B to get a snowball then Gumbo took B to the Aquarium and to get Krystal burgers--she had quite a day!
--on Friday Momma Lady watched the girls (thanks so much!) and Katie and I did errands and had lunch. We had lots of crazy adventures and had a blast!
--On Saturday morning we met the Carvilles at PJs--it was Sadie's first time inside of a public place that wasn't a doctor's office. In the afternoon Peter and I took B to the circus and the Carvilles watched Sadie (thanks, guys!). B enjoyed the circus--especially the cotton candy and lemonade and crazy light up toy. I couldn't get over how expensive everything was and they justified it by giving out commemorative junk with the cotton candy ($12) and lemonade ($9)--ouch. I think we'll wait a while before we head to the circus again, but I'm glad we went. On Saturday night P cooked dinner and made the yummiest mashed potatoes.
--On Sunday I went shopping and to lunch with Marme and the sisters to celebrate Katie's bday--tons of fun! I spent the rest of the day packing and pumping and getting the house in order. Momma Lady arrived Sunday night so she could stay with Sadie when we left for the hospital today at 5:30 am. Thanks so much, ML!!!

Thanks to everyone who kept Betsy in their prayers. I am so relieved and grateful that she did so well. Pics to follow. I'm going to attempt to sleep on this lovely vinyl loveseat--P is trying to sleep on the lovely vinyl recliner that doesn't recline too much. Good night!

Smooth Sailing

Last night we celebrated Jama, Katie, and Bobby's bdays at Jama and Pa's house. It was great to see everyone and B especially enjoyed it since her current obsession is birthdays--the birthday song, cake, candles, and balloons.

Tonight the girls were so sweet and precious. They were both happy and everything went smoothly--very rare these days. Sadie had her 8 week checkup this morning and Sam watched B. Baby Sadie is 10 lb, 9 oz and 21 and 3/4 inches long. She screamed when she got her shots, but she quickly calmed down. Tonight I took out Sadie's tub and Betsy said, "Sadie's tub?" and I told her it was so she shouted to Sadie (who was sleeping and being held by her Daddy on the sofa) "Sadie, come on, come on. Get in the tub." She repeated this a few times and looked puzzled when Sadie continued sleeping. I took lots of pics of B and Peter coloring and B eating watermelon and Sadie smiling. I will post tomorrow.

Weekend (and last week) Roundup

It's been hard for me to find time to blog lately, because these girls don't give me much of a break during the day and at night I am wiped out.

Sadie is getting so big--9 lb, 6 oz. as of the week before last. We are going to see Tommy on Wednesday for Sadie's 8 week checkup so I'll post her new weight then. Sadie is starting to hold her head up and she's smiling a lot now and pulling my hair and on my necklace. She's moving her arms and hands with purpose these days.

Betsy is saying lots of funny and cute things. Here are some examples-- I gave her some Cinderella pajamas and she said, "Ooooooh, Betsy like it. Oh, it coot (cute). I gave her a bite of my snowball the other day and she said, "Oooooh, Betsy like it. Yummy in tummy (and she rubbed her tummy)." She likes to ask for "a different one" when I give her a cup or a crayon. Today when she was eating her lunch she asked me for a "nakkin" (napkin). P bought a watermelon and it's on the counter and she said, "Daddy cut watermettin." She also wants me to kiss her boo boos. I actually just kissed her foot.

Here's a rundown on what we've been up to. On Tuesday we hung out at home and Mom came over in the afternoon and B went to Jama's for dinner. On Wednesday the Saunders kids came over to play and in the afternoon Michelle and Julie stopped by. On Thursday I dropped Sadie off at Attie's and Sam watched her while I brought B swimming at Evelyn's parents house. We had so much fun and B loved swimming in a big pool. Thursday night we went to Lucy's 3rd birthday party! Happy Birthday, Lucy!!! B is still talking about Lucy's pink princess cake.
On Friday Momma Lady watched the girls while I went shopping and to lunch with Katie. Peter even came home from work early so I could play with Katie. Thanks Momma Lady and Peter! On Saturday B and I went to the Mall with Attie and Lawson. B acted like a toddler for sure. Hal came in town in the afternoon and that night we went to dinner at Irene's with Hal, Julie, and the sisters and their boys. We had so much fun and we ran into Gumbo who treated us to dinner--thanks, Gumbo! Hal had to leave early the next day and the girls and I met Katie, Attie, and Lawsy at Marme's for breakfast. We had such a nice time. In the afternoon Gumbo took B to the Zoo to ride the up n down again.

I don't know what's up with Sadie. She has been up since 6 and has only slept for 30 minutes. It's 445. Usually she sleeps for several hours a day. Yikes!

Happy Birthday to Bobby and Jama!!!
OK, now it's almost 9:30 and I'm getting photos up. I keep trying to upload a pic of Hal and Sadie and some pics from Marme's house, but Blogger isn't letting me upload any more pics. I'll try to upload them tomorrow.

Here are more things B has been saying lately:

--"Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, look"
--"Mommy, hug"
--"It's broken, Mommy fix"
--"I, Cinderella" (B said this when I told her she was beautiful)
--She knows most of her colors
--She asks for cookies, cake, and ice cream at all hours of the day and her favorite flavor is "chockit"

Happy Father's Day!

I want to wish Peter, Gumbo, Grandpa, and all of the other poppas in our lives a Happy Father's Day!!!

Luckily Sadie only has a cold and it's slowly, but surely getting better. On Friday we went on a walk with Attie, Lawson, Katie, and Lola. It was HOT!!! Attie and Lawson hung out with us all day and we got things done that we had been meaning to get done during Attie's maternity leave--we made reservations for a trip to the beach and we made reservations for a Mom and sissy trip to NYC in September. I'm so excited about both trips! Attie goes back to work tomorrow. We're going to miss spending almost every day with Attie and Lawson, but I know we will still spend lots of times with them. On Friday night Peter picked up August Moon and we watched more episdoes from the first season of 'How I Met Your Mother.' On Saturday morning we went to the Farmer's Market again and to the PJ's downtown. Betsy was fascinated by the birds eating up her blueberry muffin crumbs. Next we headed to City Park for B to ride the carousel. When we arrived both of the girls were crashed. P and I took out the stroller and soon it started pouring so we quickly got back in the car--luckily both girls stayed asleep. We drove around City Park to see how much of it has been restored. It's looking really good. In the afternoon the girls and I went to Marme's for lemonade and cookies. We had so much fun. Last night Peter roasted the baby eggplant we bought at the Farmer's Market. I gave Betsy some eggplant over brown rice and she looked at it on her spoon and said "Yummy in my mouth please" before she ate it. Unfortunately she didn't think it was too yummy and she made a terrible face and let it fall out of her mouth and said "arrrrrghhhh!" She has been very talkative this weekend. She told me "Look, Mommy. I got da bears" and showed me two of her toy bears. She has lots to say all of the time.

This morning it was pouring so our plans to go to the Zoo were cancelled. We hung out at home then the girls and I took a nap before heading to Gumbo's for lunch. We got to see Jama, Pa, Taddy, Diane, Stevie, Calli, and Craig and of course the sissies, Lawson, and Beau. It was a nice day and Gumbo did a great job of making lunch for everyone!

***I've been trying to upload images for an hour, but I'm having problems. I'll try to upload tomorrow.

Sadie's First Cold

Well, it wasn't the best idea to let Betsy hang all over Sadie, because the poor little baby woke up in the middle of the night on Monday with congestion and a cough. She was OK yesterday and seemed like she was better. Sadie experienced her first walk to PJ's with Attie and Lawson and big sister Betsy. The girls were all so good! The double stroller was much more manageable than I thought it would be. Last night Katie and Peter A took Betsy to Jama and Pa's. They also brought us some delicious pesto sauce for supper--yum! Poor Sadie started coughing around 8pm and Peter and I were up with her most of the night. This morning we had planned to go to Krista's to hang out. At first I thought we'd stay home, but we ended up going over there so Betsy could play with Lauren and Ryan. Sadie slept the whole time. Attie and Lawson stopped by Krista's then they came over later this afternoon. Sadie is feeling pretty badly; we have an appointment at Tommy's office tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Catching Up

A couple of weeks ago Lawson seemed so much bigger than Sadie. Well, Sadie Boo is catching up and is almost as big as her cousin. Notice how Sadie is busting out of her romper! She is getting so big! Tomorrow Sadie will be 5 weeks old and Lawson will be 12 weeks old. We took some pics of the girls when Attie, Lawson, and Katie came over to visit. Betsy had a bit of a runny nose so we tried to keep her away from the babies, but she eventually kissed Sadie and held her hand. Oh well!

Weekend Roundup

Thursday was our last day with Sam. Booooo!!! Betsy had so much fun playing with her and she was so good with both of the girls. B and I met playgroup at the Parenting Center; the kids wanted to be outside the whole time and it was hot! I went to Old Navy and lunch at Houston's with Katie, Attie, and Lawson--Lawson was sooo good and didn't make a peep the whole time. When we got home I was able to take an hour long nap before Sam had to go. I usually have a hard time napping; it was awesome. Peter and Betsy went to the GJTBS party at Zephyr Field. Peter said that B wanted to go swimming the whole time and he was worried that she just might dive in. Momma Lady and Grandpa picked Betsy up from the party and she spent Friday in Vacherie--swimming and picking Momma Lady's flowers. I thought that Friday would be so easy since I would just have one baby home, but Miss Sadie was fussy--I think she missed her sister.

On Saturday we had our first family outing. We went to the Farmer's Market and PJ's. Both girls were so good--Sadie loved being in our gigantic double stroller and B was happy to have her PJ's blueberry muffin. We bought some beautiful creole tomatoes, baby eggplants, and blueberries and we bought some delicious Smith Creamery butter. Afterwards we visited Attie, Lawson, and Jodi--she was in town for the weekend. Betsy was pretty wild while we were over there and wanted to go outside to see Coco. Katie and Peter came over to visit in the afternoon. Betsy went swimming in her pool and had a ball--she could seriously stay in her pool all day. Saturday night P grilled sausage and pork chops and we roasted the baby eggplants and made a tomato salad and homemade mac n cheese--yum!.

Today we hung out at home. We spent a lot of time downstairs. Gumbo picked B up and they met Attie and Lawson at the Zoo. I ventured out alone and did some errands. We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend after Peter's crazy, hectic work week. I hope this week is nice and calm.

Mommy and the Girls

Yesterday was my first day all alone. It went fine. Sadie gets fussy when I put Betsy down for her nap--maybe she misses her sister? Katie came over in the afternoon to watch the girls and Lawson, because Attie and I had a MommyMixer event last night. Katie was brave to watch all three girls, but Marme was sick and couldn't make it. Luckily the boys were home not too long after we left. The Mixer went well. Betsy went to Jama and Pa's for dinner. Today Sam came over and I had my postpartum checkup and was able to do a couple of errands and Attie and I went to Amy's for manicures/pedicures this afternoon. Attie and Lawson hung out with us for a while this afternoon. Peter is working late tonight and both girls are asleep, but Sadie is starting to stir. Sadie slept last night from 10 until 2:30 (wow!!!) and then woke up at 530. Not too bad. My problem is that since Sadie is in our room I wake up every time she sneezes or snorts or moves. But I'm not ready to put her in the room with big sister yet. Sadie was wide awake today from 7 am until about 1:30. She's been napping a lot this afternoon/evening--I hope she sleeps tonight!

Betsy is still chatting away and asks me to do things like "Mommy, color Mickey Mouse's shoes yellow." She's very specific. She also talks about chocolate alot and is still saying "nope" constantly. Last night she was very eager to go to Jama's with Gumbo and stood by the door saying "ready to go! ready to go!" She picks out the same books for me to read her every day and says the name of the books and anticipates what will happen on each page. She is starting to randomly say strings of letters like "l,m,n,o,p" and "q,r,s,t,u,v." She likes to sit on Peter's back and say "giddyup." She likes to drop her toys from her highchair and say, "uh oh, cinderella fall down." She always tells me that she loves things like pizza and stickers (stickies). She's such a big girl.

I wanted to make a couple of notes to compare Sadie with Betsy when Betsy was 4 weeks old. Sadie weighs 8 lb, 8 oz. and B weighed 7 lb, 4 oz. Sadie seem so little, but she is not nearly as little as B was.

Here's Sadie at 4 weeks:

Here's Betsy at 4 weeks:

Here's Sadie at the hospital (about 10 hours old):

And here's Betsy (one day old):

Some days I think they look so much alike and other days I think they look totally different. In these pics I guess they look nothing alike. I'll have to do more pic reviewing to find ones where they look more alike, but I'm going to try to nap until Sadie wakes up.

Weekend Roundup

On Thursday we met playgroup at the Parenting Center and Betsy loved playing with her pals in the sandbox. Attie watched Sadie while I went to playgroup--thanks, Attie!

Friday morning was so crazy. First of all Sadie was up from about 4 till almost 7. Then as soon as she fell asleep Betsy woke up. When I went to nurse Sadie Betsy got very upset as usual and then she disappeared. She reappeared a few minutes later with wet hands and wet pajamas. I assumed she was playing with her tub toys that sometimes have water in them. Gumbo stopped by to visit and let me know that the bathroom floor was wet and there was water all around the toilet and the toilet seat was wet. Apparently my little boo was playing in the toilet. And Sadie has discovered the ability to cry--a lot. Before this weekend she hadn't really cried much at all. Attie, Lawson, and Katie came by on Friday morning and stayed until Betsy went down for her nap.

On Saturday Peter was still painting the apartment--he painted Wednesday night, Thursday night, and Friday night. Beau came over to help him and Attie and Lawson came over to visit. Katie A. and Laurie came by to see Sadie and have lunch. It was so good to visit with them. Laurie's restaurant, Iris, is moving to the Quarter this fall and will be able to seat double the amount of people it currently seats. If you haven't eaten there before you really should try it--it's so delicious. (www.irisneworleans.com) In the afternoon Katie and Peter A. took Betsy to Peter A.'s niece's and nephew's first birthday party. Betsy ate spaghetti and cake and ice cream, and went swimming. She had a ball. Attie and Lawson hung out with Sadie and me while Peter and Beau went to play golf. On Saturday night I finally got to watch the Lost season finale--so good.

Yesterday I went to see 'Sex and the City' with Attie, Katie, and Peter A. I had some problems with it, but overall I liked it. Peter and I can't wait until Sadie can go out in public places; I think we're going to attempt the Zoo or the Park next weekend.

This morning Attie took a ride with me to Uncle Tommy's office for Sadie's second appointment. She now weighs 8 lbs, 8 oz and is 20 1/4 inches long. She's gained nearly 2 pounds in 2 weeks!!! Her appointment went well. Attie and Betsy went to the PJ's across the street from the office and had breakfast. Today has been sort of rough; both girls tend to get fussy at the same time and keeping this house tidy is nearly impossible.

Some pics from the birthday party:

More pics later--I promise...
